Grant Bonin is an aerospace engineer specializing in space mission design, spacecraft systems engineering, project management and business development. His accomplishments include contributing to more than 50 space missions with 100% success rate, direct responsibility for >$100m in space systems and product sales, and initiating several world-first missions.

Prior to co-founding gravityLab, Grant was employee #1 of the Rocket Lab Space Systems division, which now generates approximately 2/3 of the company’s revenue and sales. While at Rocket Lab, Grant was responsible for the first Photon pathfinder mission (“First Light”, launched August 2020), technical lead for the CAPSTONE lunar mission proposal (successfully launched to the moon in July 2022), and initiated Rocket Lab’s first corporate acquisition (Sinclair Interplanetary).

Grant also served as SVP, Business Development at Spaceflight, where he led creation of several new products and services including Sherpa-LTE (world’s first all-electric orbital transfer vehicle, launched June 2021) and GEO Pathfinder, which will use a lunar flyby to access a geostationary orbit for the first time at this scale. He was also CTO of Deep Space Industries, responsible for developing the Comet line of water propulsion systems and was mission prime for the first HawkEye 360 pathfinder mission; and held several roles at the UTIAS Space Flight Laboratory, where he was manager and lead engineer for the CanX-4&5 and CanX-7 missions.

Grant’s overall passion is to meaningfully contribute to the human development and settlement of space.
